Alfonso Mendoza Jr.

I reside in south Texas, right along the Mexican border. I teach in a predominantly Hispanic community. I have been teaching for 11 years now and am as excited about teaching now just as I was when I first began. I started off teaching 3 years of high school math after which, I took the leap down to elementary school where I found my niche. I have taught 5 and 6th grade for the last 8 years and I would not trade it for anything else.

Being an elementary teacher has definitely pushed me to continually better myself year after year. Our students are more and more tech savvy and one has to get out of their comfort zone to make the learning engaging for them. I love that we as a classroom can adapt to technology and find a balance between traditional paper work and electronic documents.

I feel that the growth mindset has to start with us as teachers so that it can be carried over and modeled to our students. When a teacher grows and makes their students part of their growth great things happen.
